This Week’s Topic: Repellent

1. What’s something you enjoy eating that many others would be grossed-out by? **Turnip greens with mayonnaise.**

2. Which of your personal traits is most likely to make others want to avoid you? **I can be loud at times!**

3. If you could wear a bracelet that had the power to keep certain kinds of people away from you, what kind of people would you repel? **People who want to cause discord among each other and friends.**

4. We are all capable of overcoming our biases, of course, but what’s a physical trait (in others) that pretty much turns you off? **Missing Teeth??**

5. When you feel a case of the blues coming on, what do you do to fend off the bad feelings? **Turn on my Praise and Worship CDs and I automatically feel better!**

Insecticide insects and repellent, white place for text...

Thankful Thursday 10-27-11

This Week’s Top Ten include (but are not limited to!):

1.God. Every time I think I “get it” and I am doing well…He shows me more. Thank you God for your trust and faith in me to continue to give me more of who you are.

2.Jesus. Thank you Lord for going before me to prepare a way!

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8

3.John. I am proud of the man He is and what God is transforming him into as a husband and a father.

4.My Boys. They just automatically get a place because they are my babies but…I love how sweet they CAN be to each other and how helpful they are to me (especially when I don’t ask). I am very proud of them and (as Samuel would say) I love them with my whole hearts! He always adds that ‘s’ on the end!

5.My Parents. They are great parents and even better grandparents. I am so thankful for the advice and help they offer to us.

6.My Church Family. We are so lucky to have some of the *best* friends ever…they are also members of our church family! We are so happy because we have begun to hang out with them more and our children love it too. They ask when our next home group will be and if we can go. I love them and the friendship and love that they give to me and to my family.

7.Our Pastors. I am so thankful that we have pastors who love us enough to tell us the truth, give us the Word of God, and at time protect us.

8.Times When I get to Pre-Plan Meals. I love pre-planning meals. It is nice to not have to get off from work and pick the kids up just to go home to find that you have no earthly idea what to make for dinner. I love that I do a monthly calendar and plan ahead. I especially love the nights I use my crockpot! It makes after work so much smoother and more time to spend with my family!

9.Thoughtfulness. This morning I packed John’s lunch…he didn’t realize that I was doing that for him…what I didn’t know is that while I was surprising him with an already packed lunch box…he surprised me by cranking my car so that Samuel and I could get into a warm car! I love that we think of each other!

10.Softlips. So very thankful for my little tube of Softlips chapstick…especially now that it is getting colder outside and my lips are dry!

Thankful Thursday 10-20-11

Some of you who actually follow this may notice that last week I missed posting a Thankful Thursday. Well, I had a VERY busy week and I was trying to get prepared to start a new job and getting packed and everything squared away to leave for Women's Encounter at church. SO... with that said... here is this week's Top Ten things I am *most* thankful for:

(Note, I am writing this on a Friday because it has been a very fun and busy week!)

1. God. He is so powerful. Things that you thought you had under control and "fixed" can be brought to the surface by Him in an instant. He will then help you deal and get rid of the baggage! He is truly an Awesome God!

2. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. I truly do not have the words to express how I feel about Jesus when I think of all the time that is spent in intercession at the right hand of God the Father on behalf of me and my family. What GREAT love!

3. John. I went on a lunch date with John today. He didn't really have the time but he decided he didn't have time not to either. I am so lucky to have him as a husband and as a father to our children.

4. My KIDS! I love my boys! They are so sweet and teach me things daily. They keep me on my toes and thinking all the time...which keeps me "young" so I will take it.

5. Friends. Old and New. I made some new friends this past weekend at Encounter and I am so BLESSED to have some new girls in my life. Girls that live like me and strive for what I strive for. Girls who have the same interests as me and the same goals. Nothing like a good "girl" friend! I can't wait until I see some of them at dinner on Saturday night.

6. My Parents. My Parents have been so helpful to us during this transition time of me going back to work. They have picked up where we left off and pitched in when we couldn't. I am so thankful for my parents.

7. My Church. I love my church. It is such a great place of worship, receiving God's word, and of fellowship and friendship. I am so thankful that the Lord brought us to Church of the Shoals. Hebrews 10:24-25

8. My NEW Job. I am so thankful for my new job. I have tried for several years to get this job and now the Lord has decided to bless me (and my family) with it! I LOVE it.

9. Prayer. There is so much power in prayer. I feel so sad for the people who will not trust in the Lord. I just wonder sometimes how I made it through those tough times without Him... I wonder how long it will take the world to see that they NEED Him.

10. New Recipes. One of my new co-workers has printed off and shared several new recipes with me and I can not wait to try them!

This Week's Topic: Book 'Em

  1. What book did you struggle to get through but is something you’re glad you’ve read? **To be honest, I struggle to get through almost every book I ever begin reading.**

  3. If you could make everyone you know read one book, what would it be? **Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah**

    Thankful Thursday 10-6-2011

My Top Ten for This Week:

    1. God. He never quits surprising me! Just when I think I have it all figured out...He throws something in the middle to show me that He is in control! Sometimes that can be good and sometimes it can be a little scary. I don't worry about it though because I know he works it out for my good.

    2. Jesus. I am so happy to have such a great friend in Jesus. He is My defender, protector, intercessor, and best listening/talking buddy!

    3. John. I am going to be a bit more practical this week here. I am so thankful that this man understand electronics and devices. Especially computers. Without him, I would still be trying to figure out how to save a picture to my computer from last night! Not to mention, he is a whiz at coming up with good ideas and getting little boys to quit peeing in their beds and going to sleep in their own beds (I won't mention any names but his initials are: S.A.M.). I feel pretty lucky.

    4. Boys! MY boys that is. I sure do love those little sweeties. Don't get me wrong, they punch each other and fight and argue like all brothers but they also apologize and hug and take up for each other. I will take that balance. They also still kiss and hug their mommy.

    5. Iced Carmel Mocha. That is what got me through yesterday. My throat was scratchy (sinus issues) and my head was KILLING me (again, sinus issues) and I HAD to find Samuel somewhere to go to daycare when I start my new job soon. Iced Carmel Mocha helped in ALL of these areas!

    6. My New Job. I have applied and applied (and applied) for jobs with our local university for YEARS. About 6 to be exact. And... finally I got one! I am so thrilled! I went to sign my contract yesterday and I start in 10 days. I can't wait!

    7. My Mom. Yesterday I was not feeling well at all. My mom knew I had to find somewhere for Samuel to go and was coming by to watch the little kids while I went out to a couple of places. But, since I wasn't feeling well (and they weren't either) they didn't come yesterday. When she got here she loaded us up in her car and drove me all over to find a good school for Samuel. Even on HER birthday she chose to do for me. She is a good mom!

    8. Kettle Corn. Candles that is. I like the smell of Kettle Corn candles. It feels the house up with such a "Fall" smell!

    9. Weekends. YAY for not having any plans for the weekend. I would really like to clean the carpets this weekend but if not... it can wait. They aren't going anywhere!

    10. Brownies. I made a batch of brownies and they are so delicious! I hope someone eats them soon so I won't eat each and every single one of them!

    It's Fall Ya'll

**Disclaimer! There is ALOT of information and picutres in this post!!**

MY favorite time of year. Fall. I LOVE the fall. It means cooler weather but still warm enough to play outside. It also means Fall decorating and pumpkins! We decided to welcome Fall this weekend with OPEN arms!

Friday night I went out with my mom and went shopping and to dinner. We had such a good time just chatting and riding around with eachother. We went to Hobby Lobby, Cracker Barrell, and Target. We had fun...just us two. We rarely get to do that so it is a treasured treat when we are able to get out by ourselves. When I got home I found a sleeping Kobe and John and a wide awake Sam. Sam was sitting by John watching Rambo. I was glad he was still awake so I could try on his new shoes but really glad because we got to snuggle...with no interruptions!

Saturday morning John got up early to take Samuel (a friend from church who spent the night after the away game the night before) to his cross country meet and then came back home and got ready to take Callum to the school to meet up for the band competition that they were going to at Vanderbilt all day Saturday (until 3 AM on Sunday!!). After that John and our neighbor, Wayne, met up with the youth and a couple of other adults to take the boys on a Fall Hike at Cane Creek that day. I woke up early to help get them moving and out of the door and then I was going to begin my Christmas shopping. My dad and I decided to pal around a little together that morning. We went and got breakfast and then began looking for the "most wanted" items on the kids' lists this year. We met back up with my mom and boys to have lunch and then my dad decided to take Kobe and Samuel to the hunting club. OH MY! They were so happy and excited. Samuel has never gotten to go but this year...my dad said he was big enough so they took off. Samuel has not quit talking about it yet! He must have had a blast being the "little" big boy at hunting club this year. Kobe always likes time he gets to have with Poppa so I know it was a memorable day for him as well. I got lucky TWICE this weekend because once they were gone... it was just me and my mom left. We decided to ...go SHOPPING! We went and purchased the most wanted items for my children this year to make CERTAIN they get what thier little hearts desire! Callum and Kobe are the only two so far that have told me anything but they are (of course) BIG ticket items so I am happy to have their main gifts behind me. We went to Best Buy, Big Lots, the Halloween store (looking for some nerd glasses for Kobe's Halloweeen costume and of course found more!), and Wal-Mart. I had to get home to start cooking since we were watching the game at my house this week so I took off towards home. I couldn't help but stop at the Dollar General and look around (no treasures found there that day!) and then to K-Mart (two cute rugs!) before I got home. Once home, Kobe and Samuel were just getting back as well as John. Kobe had been saving his money up for sometime to buy a pair of shoes he has been wanting and finally had enough so I took him to get the shoes (eventhough my time was seriously CRUNCHED). It was nice having time with just him for an hour or so. We got back just in time for kick off and we ate Chili with all the fixings, pigs in a blanket, cocktail weenies, candy corn mix (my mom makes it and it is good!), brownies, cake, and chips and dip. Of course we watched the BAMA game. I even managed to decorate the outside for Fall!

Sunday morning came early but I was so glad! I love going to church! John got up early and got ready since he needed to be there early for Praise and Worship Team prayer and practice. We love watching John play the guitar while we worship! Samuel waves at him and says "Hey Daddy!" although I am unsure if John has ever been able to see him. We had a great time at church and recieved a great message from Pastor Bill. We have been attending a LIFE class at night and have been trying to find things to occupy a few hours in Florence instead of eating and driving home for a little while and going straight back. Last week the kids went with my parents and John and I went to lunch with a friend from church and then we went to the mall and just hung out together before evening class at church. Yesterday, we decided to pack a picnic and leave it in the church refrigerator and then after church go on a picnic. So, that is just what we did. We drove out to McGee Farm and had a picnic. After our picnic we played in the hay, fed the chickens and goats, and rode a hayride to the pumpkin patch and we each picked out our very own pumpkin. It was a great time! We took up just enough time to head straight back to church.

Our LIFE class at church is about freeing ourselves from our past and present problems (in a nutshell...it is SO much more than that!). I like the ring of "Free Fall" or "Fall of Freedom"! I really enjoyed the class and learned so much from it. It is such a blessing to have these kind of people to be around and learn from.

This was a great weekend and I hated to see it go!

One of the roads we drove down Sunday in between McGee Farm and evening church...beautiful!

    Sam liked the chickens!

Five On Friday 9-30-11 (Seeming Contradictions)

Here is this week's Five on Friday blog! If you would like to start your own Friday5 blog go HERE and get your weekly list and don't forget to link them in your blog and comment on theirs!! If you ever begin wondering or would just like to know "why" I do these blogs take a look at my explanation HERE I Hope you all have a FABULOUS Friday!!!

    This Week's Topic: Seeming Contradictions

    1. What’s better the sloppier it gets? **Sloppy Joes!!!**
    2. Who gets more beautiful the angrier he or she gets? **Uhm... I can't think of anyone!**
    3. What turns out better when it’s less planned or less organized? **Family Fun Day!**
    4. When do less focus, less motivation, and less determination mean more success? **When I am painting something. The more I concentrate the more stressed I get but if I just decide on a whim to add something hear or there while I am waiting on dinner... it always turns out great!
    5. When is impatience a virtue? **If your child is in the middle of the road and a car is coming and you are telling them to move it!**

    Yummy! SLOPPY Joes!

      Thankful Thursday 9-29-11

Looks like I am getting good at running behind on my posts these days... but better late than never.

      My Top Ten:

      1. God. HE is all knowing and only works things together for our good. His love never fails!

      2. Jesus. I was thinking the other day how in the past I used to be so quick to run grab the phone when something went wrong or someone hurt me or when something great happened....now the first thing I do is turn to my best friend Jesus.

      3. John. As always, I am so thankful for all that he does. He is running on empty right now in the sleep department and also in the personal time department but I am so glad that he puts other things above himself. He is helping with a youth small group at church...centered around...you guessed it: OUTDOORS! He took them on a hike Saturday morning and from what I can tell it was a great time. He is also playing with the Praise and Worship team at church and still finds time to help around the house with projects and hang out with our kids. He is a good man!

      4. My boys. OH! MY BOYS! They are so busy but I like it that way. It keeps them busy and out of trouble. Callum is in the band and has games every Friday night and competitions every Saturday. We don't really get to see much of him these days with rehearsals and trips but he is 14...he probably loves it! He is doing pretty well in school and I am very proud of him!! I don't know how he does all he has to do and still he stays in a good mood! Kobe is playing football and he is busy most days of the week with that as well. LUCKILY, this year their games are at night time so we don't have to devote an entire Saturday to driving and waiting and watching a game (or two) and then driving back home. He has all 100s in his classes EXCEPT reading. It isn't his favorite but he still manages to pull an A so I can't complain. Samuel is still my little shadow. He is dying to have a "practice" to go to. He wants to do wrestling but isn't old enough to sign up yet...so I feel like with in the next year it will be guitar and/or wrestling.  These guys are such a sweet part of me and I love them so very much!

      5. Parents. Please, someone tell me what we would do without our parents??? I still depend, learn, ask advice, and hang out with my parents pretty much daily! I hope our children remain as close to us as John and I are to our parents.

      6. Church. I LOVE my church! I LOVE my Pastors. I LOVE my church family. Did I mention, I LOVE CHURCH!!!

      7. Cooler Weather. I love having to grab a little jacket in the mornings. I love wanting some coffee on cooler mornings. I love that with cooler weather comes LOWER utility bills!!! For a couple of months we won't need air or heat... I LOVE this time of year!

      8. Answered Prayers. I have tried to get a job at the University of North Alabama for YEARS! Years, I tell you! And, a couple of days ago I received a call telling me they wanted to offer me the job!! I got the job! I prayed so hard for this and I claimed it in the name of Jesus and just like he said, if I asked I would receive and I did! I am so excited about this new path.

      9. Family/Friend Time. I love having time with everyone! I love being able to just hang out and talk. Saturday night we had everyone over for chili and I made some pigs in a blanket and cocktail weenies and we had some chips and dip and brownies and cake... and of course... Football!

      10. Finding Out. I  am so happy that I am finally able to find out WHO I am. I have prayed for a long time that the Lord would show me who I am... I am a wife, mother, daughter, someone who loves to sing in the shower and the car (although I don't do it well), a person who loves helping out, someone who loves to keep babies in the nursery at church, someone who loves attending classes, someone who is there no matter what you need, someone who loves to decorate and use her artistic abilities. BUT most of all... I am a son (daughter) of God!
