  2. What do you bring for a potluck lunch at work (or school)? **I always end up bringing the main dish... lasagna, chicken fingers, casserole. But if the main dish is taken I bring a corn casserole.**
  3. It’s a regifting party! Everyone brings some gift they never opened or used and leaves with someone else’s. What do you bring? **A candle, I am sure. I have a TON of them!**
  4. You’re going camping for a long weekend with a bunch of friends. Everybody agrees to bring one thing that others often don’t think to bring. What’s your contribution? **Batteries for the camera and Tylenol!**
  5. Road trip! The car in which you’re going to spend twenty hours with your closest friends only has a CD player. What do you bring? **A Contemporary Christian Music CD with the songs I have on itunes... or Romy and Michelle's Ten Year Reunion Soundtrack!**

    Thankful Thursday 9-22-11

Top Ten Things I am Most Thankful for This Week:

    1. God. I am so blessed to serve a caring and loving God.

    2. Jesus. Thankful that all I have to do is call on Him and He will come!

    3. John. I am so proud of him. Especially this week. For a month now he has been getting up extra early to spend time praying and reading his Bible. I am so "jealous" of him! I am going to do it with him ...soon.

    4. My Boys. Have I mentioned lately ( of course I have!) that I absolutely adore them? I am so happy being called "Mommy" by them. I love that they trust me with anything from babysitting Batman to problems at school and who their new girlfriend is at the moment. Yep, I love my boys!

    5. My Parents. Not only parents...but friends. Two people to turn to and look to and receive advice from... Good Parents.

    6. Good Friends. I got to spend some extra time with a sweet friend this week and it was so nice. I love having a good friend around.

    7. Hugs and Kisses. For some reason this week, I have been getting extra hugs and kisses from both boys and John. I am not saying it has to do with the extra brownies I have made... but maybe, just maybe because they just love me!

    8. Fun Times. The boys are watching one of their favorite movies (Dennis the Menace) and I am about to interrupt it. I don't think they will mind since I am going to surprise them with an ice cream outing.

    9. Great Pastors. I told Pastor Bill some of the stuff that is going on right now and without any hesitancy or time needed to think he quickly gave me GREAT advice and prayed over me and my family. I am so blessed to have our Pastors in our lives.

    10. Review Weeks. This week has been a review week at school. That means NO HOMEWORK and no REGULAR TESTING!!! Which means, more family time and more time to just hang out instead of spending all of our time at the dining room table studying and working. Plus... football was cancelled twice this week so it has been such a blessing to spend more time with my family.

    Signs of the Times

I have recently captured some cute photos of the boys and I wanted to post them here so that I will have them in our blog book when it is published. So here they are:

Playing football in the yard. Looks like Sam was doing a little more than just tackling!

    Ready! Set! Hike!

    Running a "touchdown"

    Taken down by Sam!

Buster couldn't just sit with me and watch any longer. He stole the ball and ran it in for a TD!

Callum and Dally at the Homecoming Dance. Callum's first High School Dance.

Go Trojans! Waiting for the parade to start.

    Kobe, Braeden, Scout, and Sam

    Sweet Friends. Scout & Samuel

    Kobe before school on Homecoming

    So sweet!

    Apparently this is serious!

He said he was a "mini John" that day. He was wearing camo shorts and a grey Tshirt and borrowed John's grass cutting shoes!

This is how the Power Rangers get around here at the Rainey House! This is "Kitty".

September appears to be very busy!

    First Game of the Season

Thankful Thursday 9-15-11 (Better Late Than Never)

I have been so busy that I haven't even gotten a chance to update my weekly blogs! So here is my list from last week:

    1. God. Eventhough I may not understand His plan... it is OK. He knows what He is doing and that is where my Faith comes in and trusts in Him.

    2. Jesus. Nothing is impossible for Him!

    3. John. Bless Him. He is so good to me and out kids. Even when I am whiny and irritable!

    4. My boys. I don't have to tell you this because you already know ... they are my whole life! I love these babies more and more with each passing SECOND!

    5. Cooler Weather! Thank you LORD for cooler weather. We were burning up these past couple of months but we have had chili, potato soup, and taco soup! I LOVE FALL!

    6. Crockpots. I just love putting my taco soup in that crock pot and not worrying about it until dinner time!

    7. Timely Messages. I received a timely Word on Sunday morning that meant so much to me. It was like the Lord just placed it in my pastor to give just to me. I am so blessed to have a God who takes time to help me!

    8. Life Class. Pastor Jamie is teaching a Life Class at church on Sunday evenings and I am so glad to be able to attend. The class registration ended up being full so I am glad I signed up in advance!

    9. Responsibility. I am so glad that I am responsible. I am so glad that I can lead by example to teach my children to be responsible as well.

    10. True Friends and Family Members. I am learning that just because someone has the same "blood" as you that doesn't MAKE Them act like a family member and just because someone doesn't have the same "blood" as you that doesn't make them any less of a family member. Thankful for true people in my life.

    Suzanne Kathleen Laughlin

That is the name of the best friend that I had to say goodbye to way too soon. She was the kind of friend that you just could NOT wait to be around. She was fun, hysterical, loyal, and always ready to do something. I really wish she could have been here to know that I was pregnant with Kobe. I really wish she could have been with me on the top of that mountain when I married John. I wish she could have know my Sam. They called Susie "sam" sometimes... I believe Susie and Sam would have been quite the pair! She was the sweetest friend that you could have ever dreamed of having.

Everyone keeps asking me if I remember where I was when the twin towers were attacked on 9-11-01. I do. But I don't quite associate it that way. I was sitting on the couch at my house. I was crying and mourning the loss of my best friend. I was trying to stay strong because I was pregnant with Kobe and I did not want to do anything that might cause problems in my pregnancy but it was hard to not break down. I did. Several times. I still do at times. I wasn't aware that the 9-11 incident was even a terrorist attack until days later because I was dealing with such a personal loss that I could not wrap my mind around what the news was saying and showing.

I have a photo book of all pictures of Susie that her sweet mom, Marg, made for us. I look at it often . I have several things that she gave me over the years that I cherish. I guess I hold on to them because they are from her and they are all I really have left.

I don't have any siblings. I am unsure of the magnitude of grief that her sisters felt when they heard the devasting news. I know that a sisterly bond is like no other. Because I do not have a sister... I don't know for sure... but I felt as if she were a sister to me.

She will never be forgotten and I will always remember her and I still drive my boys by her mom's house where she lived at Christmas so we can tell her "Merry Christmas".  I tell my boys all about her and little things she loved and things she didn't love! I show them pictures of her and when we are outside sometimes if they see a bright star they tell me they think it may be Susie smiling at us. I love that I am old enough to appreciate the person she was and still is... as I allow her to live on through me. I will always remember her with a heart full of love.

    Susie, Lori, and Me

I miss her but I am very lucky that she introduced me to Lori. Lori has always been my friend but this tragedy made us both realize how precious friendship is and we have remained the best of friends over all the years. We laugh, celebrate, cry, and even plot together! Still. To this very day. She is like an aunt to my children as I am to hers. We honor Susie's memory by making sure to stay loyal and in contact because we know that is exactly what Susie would have done if she were still here.

Sometimes, I do just have a good old cry because something really good or horrible has happened... and I think ... man, I wish Susie were here today. But, she is here. I know that. I just sometimes get selfish and want to talk to her and hug her and hang out for a while and have a Diet Coke!

I am so thankful for the years of friendship she gave me and the lessons in real friendship she taught me.

Susie may be gone but she will never be forgotten and she will always be loved by me.

Here is this week's Five on Friday blog! If you would like to start your own Friday5 blog go HERE and get your weekly list and don't forget to link them in your blog and comment on theirs!! If you ever begin wondering or would just like to know "why" I do these blogs take a look at my explanation HERE I Hope you all have a FABULOUS Friday!!!

    This Week's Topic: Sleep Deprivation

    1. When you’re having trouble staying awake, what are some things you do to make sure you don’t drift off to sleep? **Walk around... in cool air or possibly a light drizzle of rain! Sometimes I have to resort to a Coca Cola or coffee!**
    2. What’s most likely to cause you a prolonged period of not enough sleep? **Cleaning and trying to fit in some "me time" when the kids finally go to bed.**
    3. When you’re going through a prolonged period of not enough sleep, what parts of your daily routine are likely to change, and how? **I will probably not be nearly as productive as I could be and I would probably try my best to fit a nap in somewhere!**
    4. Who in your life seems regularly to have not enough sleep? **John and myself!**
    5. In what ways does your personality change when you go through a prolonged period of not enough sleep? **ILL!**

      Thankful Thursday 9-8-11

      My Top Ten this week:

      1. God's Timing. It actually makes me laugh! We think we know so much but we have no idea! I just have to sit back and hand it over because I can see that I have NO idea what to do. Sometimes I find myself feeling a little guilty for not praying for certain situations...but I was reminded this morning that I no longer have to worry or pray for those things... it is off of my plate. I have just handed it over and I have to let God do His will and everything else will just fall right into place.

      2. Jesus. He can't love you any more or any less than He does at this very moment!

      3. My babies. I love my boys. I mean, I can not express with words the feelings I have for my precious kids. I would do absolutely anything for them. I love when Samuel runs to me and hugs me tight and when Kobe seeks my approval or Callum asks my opinion. I am so blessed and what's even better... I know it so I don't take advantage of it!

      4. John. Oh! That man. Bless him for having to put up with me some days. I wonder why he does sometimes but that doesn't matter... all that matters is that he does and he does it with a loving and supporting heart. I love him!

      5. Trips. I love trips. Especially trips that I clean up the house and do laundry before we leave so that when we come home all I have "to do" is wash the clothes we wore while gone. This past weekend we got to visit my in laws and it was so nice to see John and his sister hug. It made me so proud and happy. His mom was so happy to see us as well as his dad and Diane and I love each of them so much. It is nice to be able to share time with all of them at the same time. Sam and Kobe didn't want to come home! I am seeing a few days visit in their future!

      6. Plans. Plans that you can keep "under wraps" and surprise your family and kids with later. I love plans that fall apart into something better. I love plans that go according to how I imagined. I just love having plans.

      7. Church. I love Church of the Shoals. I missed it so badly while we were gone this past weekend. I longed so badly to be there and was so thankful to be there last night.  John and I talked several different times about how much we missed seeing our friends and being at church.

      8. Experience. I love that I am beginning to get enough experience "under my belt" that I feel confident and happy with my decisions in parenting and in life for that matter. I am happy that I am becoming more mature and can think things through instead of acting on impulse and possibly making a bad decision.

      9. LEFTOVERS! I love making dishes that I KNOW will last more than one meal. I love making spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chili, taco soup, chicken casserole, etc. My children love all of these dishes so they don't mind eating them more than once and it lets me off the hook. I love making chili because then you can bake some fries and have chili cheese fries!

      10. Friends. Real ones. The ones that call you on their lunch break just to see how your day is going. The ones that know what is going on and care enough to ask you about it. New ones and old ones... it doesn't matter as long as they are true, real friends. (My parents are included in this category... as I have gotten older they can now be my friends, too!)

      This Week's Topic: Falling

      1. What were the circumstances surrounding your most embarrassing (physical) stumble? **In college. In the gym. A treadmill speed was set to high and it was up against a wall.... I fell down on my knees and had to "run" on it on my knees! Embarrassing and very a little hilarious!**
      2. As summer winds down and autumn makes its approach, what are you most looking forward to in the changing of the seasons? **I live in Alabama... COOLER WEATHER!**
      3. What’s something you’ve recently fallen for? **I am slightly addicted to Coke Zero.**
      4. Of what has there been a shortfall in your life recently? **Time and sleep**
      5. Has there been any kind of windfall in your life in the past few months? **Love from God!**

      Thankful Thursday 9-1-11

I have A LOT to be thankful for this week but I will TRY to keep it to ten things:

      1. God. I mean, enough said. He gives me new mercies every single morning and he forgives me and loves me unconditionally!

      2. Jesus. Sweetest name I know.

      3. John. He tries so hard to do everything. He tries to be at every event. He tries to give good advice and help around the house. He is supportive and hands out the discipline when needed. He speaks the Word of God over our family and prays for us. When I think of John the first thing that comes to mind is "A Man's Man". He don't mind getting dirty and sweaty working outside or on something, he don't mind helping with homework, wrestling around with our kids, running/hiking/walking, and he still finds time to snuggle with Sam, throw a ball with Kobe, practice drums with Callum, and hug me and plan surprise trips! I would say that is a Man's Man!

      4. MY BABIES! One day I may stop calling them my babies but for now... it's not going to happen! I LOVE MY KIDS! I am *so* proud of Callum for digging in and learning his music for the band. I love that Callum stays behind to help other sections get their stuff together..even though it does make me wait in the car longer!! I can't wait to watch him in the half time show tomorrow night. Kobe makes my heart pitter patter with pride when I watch him play sports. Especially, when he is on the football field and players are swapped out... when those players run out to meet the rest of the team that is already on the field, Kobe is the first one standing there giving them five and pepping them up for the next play and I am proud of him for that. I can't wait to watch his game tonight. SAM! My little Sam man. OH, how he makes me laugh. I love that he wants to pray for everything and everyone. I love that he loves to worship with me in the mornings and that he loves to be my little snuggle bunny!

      5. The Bible. There is some GREAT stuff in that book. If you haven't read it... you ought to! I am working on it now!

      6. My Buster. I love my little Butter Bean. I am so thankful that I have him as a member of our family! He looks for me and wags his tail and runs to me when I have been gone. He also has started going everywhere in the car with me! He is my little bee-bee (baby) Buster Bean!

      7. Surprises. I have one up my little sleeve. Well, John actually planned it but I can't wait until the kids figure it out!

8.Blessings. This week when I wrote our tithe check... it was more than I have ever written it for before. I consider that a blessing because we had more to give which means we recieved more this week too!! Thank you Jesus for your many promises!

      9. Good Teachers. I had the priveledge of speaking with both of Kobe's teachers yesterday. They are the sweetest teachers. I know that this is going to be one of the last years of "elementary" and after that he has to be more responsible and I may not have a great relationship with all of the teachers he will see each day. So, that is why I am going to take advantage of it now. I absolutely love Mrs. Byrd and Mrs. Goins. They both had the best things to say and I am so appreciative of everything they do. I am super appreciative of Callum's teachers too... although I have not met ANY of them (I guess that is part of having a high schooler??) they have to be special... could you imagine working with teenagers ALL day??

      10. My Parents. They are the best parents and grandparents EVER. I am so blessed to have them in all of our lives. My mom helps me learn to be a better mom and my dad shows John things and helps him learn things as well... we are very lucky to have them. Of course, my kids think they are the luckiest of all because that is their Nana and Poppa! Once, Kobe told me I was so lucky!! I asked why and he said, "Because, You get to have Nana as your momma and Poppa as a daddy!". Cute.
